ALCPA 48th Annual National Convention
Niagara Falls, NY     Jun 25-29, 2002

Wednesday morning is set-up day.  Like last year, the air conditioning wasn't turned on which made things a little miserable, but it wasn't as bad as last year in Peoria.  Here are a few shots of fellow collectors on the floor:

Turns out I wasn't the only one with a Tiger shirt
Check out Mike McJunkin's cool shirt from Thailand!

The displays were nothing short of spectacular this year.  If you wanted a nice award, the competition was fierce.  Here are just of few of them.  The convention is such a busy time for me, I never have time to read each one closely.  Some of them have an unbelievable amount of research or interesting stories.  Others are definite museum material.

Eric Anderson's profile of an early  motorcycle dealer who moved from NY to Wisconsin.  He's got plates here no one else has got.  Like Wis '32 "ICE" m/c dealer!

You can't argue with the mooful
sense of humor Tom Dayton has.
The topic?  Farm plates of course!

A very thorough history through
the NY Thruway.  Way to go!

Never have I seen so many Latin American plates in one spot as Dick Parker's display here!  Where's the salsa?

We had no less than 3 excellent displays from Ontario collectors featuring plates from that province.  I suppose that is not suprising, given that it is not even a mile away, across the border.  You can literally walk to the Canadian side from the convention hall.

Displays from Ontario

Jon Upton 's passenger run  was clearly a winning display.  Good job!

Dave Steckley's display features a nice array of Ontario types.  Almost every non passenger type was here.

John Rubick even brought his trailer right into the convention hall.  He had a very impresive display of political and special event plates.

The Ride Home

I packed up the Tiger with all my booty, and realized I had bought more booty than I brought.  I contemplated mailing some of it home, but I was able to pack it tight.  Saddled down with tin, I headed home.  After a stop near Pittsburgh, the next day, bad news struck.  A flat tire!  Now it looks like I'll need a tow home as today is Sunday and no place open to get my tire fixed.  Would you believe the guy who picked me up to take me to the nearest gas station - his truck broke down as soon as we got there.  Talk about spreading the jinx!  Anyway, here are a couple shots on how I didn't plan the ending of my trip:

Yup, she's flat  all right!

On the back of the flatbed truck.
This is not how my Tiger likes to travel!
