Hershey Automotive Flea Market
Oct 2002
The largest automotive fleamarket car show in the world may not exist if Hershey had sold out to Nestle's.  Fortunately that did not happen and just like last year, it was vast.  A few changes to the fields were done.  The familiar Green Field is now entirely paved and open.  This is now home to the car corrall (no vendors).  The makeshift Yellow field is closed, but the smaller Blue Field across the made thoroughfare is still open.  The White and Chocolate Fields remain the same. What is new is the Red field, which surrounds the Stadium and spills into the Chocolate field.  This is where the ALPCA tent was located, unfortunately rather out of the way of mainstream traffic.

As usual I arrived on the Triumph Tiger and parked the Bike next to the ALPCA tent which would be home for the next 2 nights.  Sleeping on the ground, which was pavement, wasn't too bad.

VWs at Hershey
1959 Ragtop - $13,000 1967 - $6,800 1969 - Automatic Stickshift
Convertible 1970 - $6,500

As you might have already guessed by now, there is nothing cheap at Hershey.

Bikes at Hershey
Green BSA
Definitely old - look at that waist high exhaust!
1940 Tiger - complete with Maryland license plate

Tigers at Hershey -

I actually did better finding Tigers than collectible license plates worth buying.

Unfortunately I had no room on my bike for Tiger signs; two of which are shown here.

(In this case, the sign was not for sale!)

As I was saying, there were few collectible plates worth buying.  This layout of WV plates was utter junk.  Most should be thrown into the scrap metal baler, not brought to a car show.  Seriously! This old Greyhound  bus came from Minneapolis.   I can only imagine how stuffy it must have been - with those small windows! Check this out!  This guy and his family  had driven all the way from Argentina in his  Model 'A'.  He was there, signing copies of his book

Okay, it's now time to head home.  Shoot!  It's raining!  Well, that's nothing new for Hershey (which is famous for rain).  Why do you think they paved most of the vending area?

The rain started Thursday at noon, and turns out it remained for the rest of the meet.  Well, by late Thursday afternoon I was outta there, however it was indeed a very miserable ride home.

Okay, let's hope for better weather next year.  Don't count on it!
