Carlisle PA Automotive Flea Market
"Spring Carlisle" / "Fall Carlisle" 2001

A tigerrific Circus sign.
I was hoping for a bargain.
The owner had $175 on it.
Carlisle is one of those "must do" automotive shows if you are in the area.  It is huge, second only to Hershey, I believe.  As with many car shows, it seems to be NASCAR overriden these days, but it still is very worthwhile if you are into other vintage vehicles, or even looking for other collectibles (license plates, bottles, petrolania, and so on).  Carlisle is huge, you can see most of it in a day if you are in good shape - be prepared for a lot of walking.  Spring Carlisle (April) is not quite as big as Fall Carlisle (October).  Fall Carlisle is bigger because many are also attracted to Hershey, which takes place once a year in the Fall and is the largest automotive flea market in the world.

Like many of us collectors, I'm always on the looking for stuff at a good price.  With a little patience and a lot of walking you're sure to find something.

If you get lost - meet at the light.
It is a familiar landmark.

Many vendors come in vintage vehicles themselves.
Here is a colorful Ford 1963 Camper Bus in remarkably great shape.

Wayne Tyler - a dealer in YOM license plates.
His spot is right across from the "light".

Here's something, umm, different.  A Volkscycle / Bugcycle (!)
(A WV Bug converted into a motor-tricycle of sort!)

A hot-rod custom VW.  The license
plate says it's a '68 but I think it is older.

Another old bus.  This time a tour bus.
Suprisingly old, 1950 or so.
A pair of Flatheads.  No I haven't heard of them before either.  As a matter of fact, coming to Fall Carlisle on my Tiger, one pulled up alongside me at my light.  I couldn't quite figure out what he was on (looked like some heavy-duty Boss Hoss to me).  "It's a Flathead" he said.  ("This is a Tiger" I responded). Thought he was talking about the latest Harley, and then we waved goodbye.  What's a Flathead you may ask?  Well, it is a custom cycle with a Ford "Flathead" V8 motor, hence the name.  Not a Harley at all.  Suprisingly simple, not even a clutch.  Bloody heavy, and terrible gas mileage.  However if you want something the other guy doesn't have and if you have a spare $20,000, one of these can be yours.  My sighting of one of these actually on the road in use was a rare one indeed!

Here's something I haven't seen before. A dog with Tiger - like stripes!

A nice assortment of  European  porcelain signs -
for sale by a Frenchman no less.

A "Racist" license plate.  And judging from the pricetag ($175) the vendor valued it pretty highly too :-(
