PEI was the first province, along with NB to introduce validation stickers with an unusual 1963 sticker on the base-plate shown.  Following that, a series of three and four-year baseplates was issued.  Up until 1980, stickers were required on both front and rear plates.

Stickers issued in 1977 have a picture of a tent, to commemorate the Boy Scout Jamboree.  Beginning in 1980, a special sticker was issued to cover up the sticker on the front plate because a front plate was no longer required.

No sticker for 1981.

Special sticker for 1989 Boy Scouts' Jamboree
Staggered registration was introduced with the 1987 stickers.  A separate black and white month sticker was used.  The 1989 sticker had a distinctive design and was issued for the Boy Scout Jamboree.  It was very hard to read as you can see.
