Staggered registration was
introduced at the end of 1981 with stickers expiring in June, 1982.
From 1982 to 1984 each month of the year was color coded.
From this series forward,
stickers may be placed in either corner.

A barcode for optical scanning was introduced on the 1999 stickers. It encodes the serial number of the sticker (not the plate) but presumably, when scanned with a laser gun, may be traced back to whomever the vehicle was registered to.
